Actalent Cost Estimator in Astoria, New York

Job Title: Heavy Civil Construction EstimatorJob Description

Seeking a detail-oriented Heavy Civil Construction Estimator to conduct thorough reviews of contract plans, specifications, and other bid documents. Responsibilities include performing accurate takeoffs, calculations, analyzing data, soliciting quotations from subcontractors and suppliers, and preparing documents for bid proposals. The role involves using estimating software to prepare detailed cost estimates, determining construction means and methods, engaging in dialogue with stakeholders, and reviewing project risks. The ideal candidate will work both independently and as part of a team to ensure accurate and competitive bid submissions.

Hard Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field

  • Proficiency in HCSS HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Excel, Primavera P6

  • 2-5 years of work experience in heavy civil construction, including field experience

  • Familiarity with DOT, DDC, DEP, EDC, MTA C&D, PANYNJ and other government agency codes and regulations

Soft Skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

  • Ability to develop clear write-ups and documentation for SOQ/RFP type proposals

  • Capability to work independently and as part of a team

Job Type

This is a permanent position.

Work Site

This is a fully on-site position in Astoria, New York.

Work Environment

The position is based locally in NY or NJ, requiring no extensive commuting. The role demands a blend of office and field work, engaging directly with multiple stakeholders and managing detailed project documentation.
