The Phlebotomist is responsible for ensuring the safety of donors and the purity of the product as a result of the plasma collection process. This position monitors the donor throughout the collection process for possible equipment errors, donor reactions, or any unexpected events and must take appropriate actions should any unexpected event occur. The Phlebotomist must strictly adhere to all regulations and maintain the confidentiality of all personnel, donor, and center information.
Responsibilities
Ensure the safety of donors and purity of plasma during the collection process.
Monitor donors for equipment errors, donor reactions, or any unexpected events.
Take appropriate actions in response to any unexpected events during the collection process.
Assist with administrative duties to support the Donor Center as needed.
Adhere to all regulations and maintain confidentiality of personnel, donor, and center information.
Essential Skills
High school diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience as a phlebotomist in a blood or plasma collection center preferred.
Basic computer skills.
CPR certified or ability to obtain certification.
Knowledge of phlebotomy and plasma collection techniques.
Attention to detail and a positive attitude.
Ability to act quickly in response to unexpected events.
Experience with 17 gauge needles and performing 10-15 sticks per shift.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Annual GMP training.
Occupational exposure to blood-borne pathogens.
Experience in retail or hospital settings as relatable experience.
Work Environment
The work environment is a plasma center/clinic, requiring extended periods of standing and bending. The environment is more controlled compared to a hospital, with a 6:1 donor-to-phlebotomist ratio. The center promotes a family-driven atmosphere with internal promotions only. Employees are eligible to accrue PTO from day one and can utilize it after 90 days, with 12 days of PTO plus 4 paid holidays (Christmas, Thanksgiving, New Year, and July 4). Employees receive double time on holidays and full benefit eligibility at 31 days for those working at least 30 hours per week.
