Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer
Job Description
We are seeking a first-rate Manufacturing Engineer with experience in composite aircraft assembly. The primary task will be to help establish the manufacturing process flow and documentation for the fabrication and installation of avionics components, setting up production line operations for the Production Team. The Manufacturing Engineer will define the necessary production equipment, tools, systems, and materials to create an efficient, organized, and lean factory. After production operations begin, the engineer will oversee much of the Avionics installation and work on process improvement and production optimization using lean processes and tools.
Responsibilities
Plan, direct, and coordinate manufacturing processes on the factory floor.
Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, installation methods, and quality control standards.
Analyze and plan workforce utilization, space requirements, and workflow, and design layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
Confer with planning and design staff concerning product design and tooling to ensure efficient production methods.
Confer with vendors to determine product specifications, arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts, and evaluate products according to specifications and quality standards.
Verify Engineering designs and drawings to ensure manufacturability.
Estimate production times, staffing requirements, and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
Confer with management, engineering, and other staff regarding manufacturing capabilities, production schedules, and other considerations to facilitate production processes.
Create manufacturing and nonconformance work instructions.

Additional Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a relevant Engineering discipline preferred, or 5+ years’ experience in lieu of formal education.
FAA approved Airframe and Powerplant license (A&P License) a plus.
Experience with Avionics LRU’s, Circuit Boards, and Wiring Harnesses.
Experience with aircraft composites fabrication and assembly is preferred.
Experience with BMI composite assembly is preferred.
Knowledge of lean manufacturing philosophies and tools.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal and coaching skills.
Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
Excellent organizational skills and problem-solving skills.
Strong team player.
Excellent computer skills, including Word, Excel, MS Project, and PowerPoint.
CAD experience (CATIA V5 or 3dx preferred).
GD&T skills through experience and/or formal training.
Knowledge and experience with AS9100 a plus.
Experience with manufacturing-based ERP systems a plus.
Work Environment
This position is on-site in Mesa, with no remote work options. The work will primarily take place in a new facility hangar, with collaborative cubicles on the manufacturing floor next to the aircraft. The role will require occasional travel to Mojave for training, likely broken up around holidays. This is a one-year contract position with an expectation to extend, as there is work scheduled for the next three years. Benefits include 2 weeks of PTO accrued, all holidays paid, and accrued sick days.
