Controls Engineer - Nashville, TN - Hybrid
As a Controls Engineer, you will serve as the Continuous Improvement driver for all Control Systems at sort centers. Your primary responsibilities will include identifying opportunities in existing systems to innovate current automation or apply automation to existing control systems. This role is onsite for the first month of training as you get ramped up, then you are hybrid. This office is located downtown.
Job Responsibilities:
Work independently with internal and external engineering teams to successfully deliver cross-functional projects that are of a high-quality (e.g., on-time, on-budget, maintainable, low-defects, etc.).
Partner with project managers and external vendors to set project priorities, establish milestones, and drive schedules to meet a deadline.
Influence technical documentation content, perform documentation review, dive deep into system layouts and solutions.
Competently represent system and/or equipment designs to both customers and other teams.
Communicate project status, effectively answer project questions in detail, and regularly produce clear and concise summaries for the projects you own to your leadership/management team.
Excel at developing good working relationships with vendors, engineers, managers, and peers.
Participate in design reviews and support execution efforts between internal teams and outside vendors including equipment specifications, material flow, process design, and site layout, with emphasis on the electrical and controls layout.
Work with internal teams to develop quality and performance test plans that enable vendors to demonstrate the quality of their system
Build strong working relationships with leadership and their operations teams across multiple sites as well as their Launch, Facilities, Finance, Safety, Process Engineers, and other business stakeholders.
Identify and lead process improvement initiatives in support of operations teams within a geographic node.
Skills & Qualifications:
Must have BS in Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related STEM field
4+ years of relevant professional experience within controls/electrical engineering
PLC Programming from scratch - Allen Bradley
AutoCAD electrical design
25-50% travel (Typically 2-3 days of travel every 3 weeks)
Managing outside vendors and reviewing controls to their specifications
Improving/modifying Control Systems for process improvements
Soft Skills:
Ability to work independently and in a team
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Project management and leadership capabilities
